Introduction to IELTS test

IELTS (International English Testing System) – International English Testing System aims to assess the English language proficiency level of purpose for thoes who want to study, immigrate or work where English is used as the official language of communication.
IELTS assesses the communication ability through 4 skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
IELTS is widely accepted by many universities. Additionally, IELTS is also considered to meet the requirement to issue a visa. If you want to work or study, IELTS Certificate is essential.. There are 2 modules of the IELTS exam: IELTS Academic and IELTS General.
IELTS Academic: this test is recognized widely and is the measure for input language requirements for an undergraduate or postgraduate course. This is a measure of whether an applicant is ready for undergraduate and graduate programs taught in English.
IELTS General: this test is suitable for everyone who prepares to go to English-speaking countries to complete the high school program, training program, or immigration purposes.

How to calculate the band score in the IELTS exam

The band score is from band 0 to band 9.0 for each section of the test. The overall band score is the average of four sections, the decimal band score will be rounded up or down to take the form x.0 or x.5 (score x.25 and x.75 rounded up)

❃ So if the examinee has the following results for each section:
• Listening: 6.5
• Reading: 5.0
• Writing: 7.0
• Speaking: 6.0
– The result will be sent to the examinees in 2 weeks after their test.
– The test taker who wants to take the test again, must wait at least 3 months, but the number of times to take the IELTS test is not limited.

IELTS exam format

Both 2 modules of the IELTS exam (IELTS Academic and IELTS General) include 4 skills such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

The format exam is presented following: 

The test total time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. 

– Listening: 30 minutes 

– Reading: 60 minutes 

– Writing: 60 minutes 

– Speaking: 15 minutes
