Introduction to TOEIC test

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is a standardized test and builds the standard measure the everyday English skills of people working in the international communication environment. TOEIC only assesses English proficiency without requiring specialized vocabulary or knowledge. With the TOEIC test, there is no concept of failing or passing the exam. TOEIC test results (with two comprehension sections such as Listening and Reading called TOEIC paper) have a scale from 0 to 990 points. The results obtained will show the English proficiency of the examinee. TOEIC is recognized worldwide.

Preparation of the TOEIC program

Educational Testing Service (ETS) began developing the TOEIC test in 1979. ETS is the leading global organization in designing, organizing large-scale language assessment examinations and educational research. ETS’s customer is individuals, companies, educational organization and state government in nearly 200 countries. ETS has designed the tests and organized the English examination for over 12 million examinees around the world. ETS has prepared many multiple-choice tests such as TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, GRE, TOEIC, TOEIC Bridge, Criterion, etc, and these tests are applied to assess commonly worldwide. TOEIC Paper test format

TOEIC Listening and Reading Test consists of 200 multiple-choice questions divided into 2 parts and takes two hours to complete.
* TOEIC Listening: This section assesses the understanding of listening English language, consists of 100 questions, and is divided into four-part with having an audio component by cassette or CD. The Listening section takes approximately 45 minutes. Test takers listen to a variety of statements, questions, conversations, and talks recorded in English, then answer questions based on the listening segments.
Part I: Photographs – 6 questions
Part II: Question–Response – 25 questions
Part III: Conversations – 39 questions
(13 conversations with 3 questions each)
Part IV: Talks – 30 questions
(10 talks with 3 questions each)

* TOEIC Reading:
This section assesses the understanding of reading comprehension in English, consists of 100 questions, and is divided into three-part. The Reading section takes approximately 75 minutes. Test takers read a variety of materials and respond to questions based on the item content.
Part V: Incomplete Sentences – 30 questions
Part VI: Text Completion – 16 questions
Part VII: Single Passage: 29 questions (10 reading texts with 2-4 questions each)
Multiple Passages: 25 questions (5 sets of double or triple passages with 5 questions per set)
